Islington council leader ‘shocked and saddened’ over double stabbing deaths
A senior politician spoke of her “devastation” at the double murder of a teenage boy and a man in Archway after they were stabbed.
The boy, thought to be 15 years old, was pronounced dead at Elthorne Road, last night (FRI) and a 23 year-old was rushed to hospital where he was also pronounced dead.
Doctors are caring for a third stab victim, aged 28, and his injuries are described as not life-threatening.
Detectives from the Specialist Crime Command are investigating.
They believe a large number of people were there when the attack took place and are urging witnesses and those with information to come forward.
So far there have been no arrests and police have been given additional stop and search powers under a Section 60 order.
Council leader Kaya Comer-Schwartz said: “I’m shocked and saddened following the fatal stabbings of a man and a boy in Islington last night.”
She said her thoughts are with the families and friends of those affected.
The murder victims were found in the ward she represents and she urged anyone who can help the police investigation to call them on 101, quoting reference CAD 9383/29 Jun. They can also contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
Fellow Junction ward councillor Janet Burgess tweeted:”This is a terrible crime. Every life is precious. I hope that the people who did it are found swiftly and brought to justice, but this will not bring back these young people.”
Islington Council is working with the community and police to support people affected.
The Met’s Chief Superintendent Andy Carter said: “My thoughts are with the families of the two victims who have suffered such an unimaginable loss in this shocking and unacceptable incident.”
He said there will be an increased police presence in the area and asked for help in finding out exactly what happened.
“I urge anyone who has information that can help us establish exactly what has happened to approach those officers or contact us immediately. A man and boy have lost their lives and we must now work together to identify those responsible and remove them from our streets.”
